PAINTINGS

Wienholt received early recognition for drawing and painting. Returning to painting later in life, she used a dark palette and chose subjects such as birds, flowers, food, and human sitters. She would stretch and prime the canvas, and often built her own frames. She captured the odd or idiosyncratic in her human subjects, what she saw as “the beauty in ugliness.”
